clearance lights
i have an 1984/5 El Dorado < see pic> i was looking to replace some of the lights/lens but they seem to be an outdated fixture...the lens indicates its a reflect-o light #278 ...i tried to mount a new style light < oval trailer light> the shape was not right plus the wiring access hole i needed to drill bigger to get all 4 wires <2 negative 2 positive 12-14 gauge> into the light housing.the mounting location is preformed in the fiberglas header panel so it didnt seat well... the base of the old fixture is 4' by 1" inch..does anyone have this style fixture floating around??? any recommendations on replacements. its hard to judge what will work looking thru a catalog. they frown on me opening the packages at the parts store to check the mounting plate..
i do not want to use lens tape..i am cheap but not that cheap...thanks..

Clearance Lights
I had to do the same type of modification, the ones that you have are where the 4 wires come through the back of the light plate and just grab into the copper catch. You will have to replace them with the only available that I have found where you will have to drill a hole in the mounting plate of the clearance light and bring the wires through and attach them with the mounting screws. Make sure you use star washers to get a good connection.
However the ones you are looking for can be found yet today online, but off hand I can't remember the web site where I had seen them.
