Body molding for 88 starfire

Post  Jon C on Fri Jun 26, 2009 6:44 am

Hi everybody. I'm new to the editboard. I'm considering purchasing a 88 starfire and need help with body molding. The starfie logo on the rear driver side was damaged and need to be replaced. It seems like a pretty easy fix but I cant find the part. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement. Are there any junked starfires around I can salvage parts from?

Thanks

Jon,

Sorry to say, but those mouldings are rarer than '71 Hemi Cudas! You might try emailing this guy: madtownmrbill@alltel.net He was selling a 27ft model back in October that didn't have the moulding on it, he might have them.

Anyway, the best way to fix them is to just bondo them up and make them as smooth as possible.

FWIW, these mouldings appear to be "slush cast" out of fiberglass epoxy. Then, more resin was added to the backside and a piece of wood was stuck in the wet resin. Now, 20 years later, the wood is rotten and the screws don't hold them very well.

Mine are in mostly good shape, no real damage, but they have small "stress cracks" along the top edge of them as well as the wood rot mentioned above. The small one behind the door was glued back on at some point and has recently fell off sitting in the yard. This small one (about 9" long) weights about 5 lbs!

I'm going to take them all off soon to get them out of the sun before they get worse.

There was a local guy who glued diamond plate all over his, I cried! He recently traded that Starfire in and I assume it went to auction. It was pretty messed up. I considered getting it for parts, but it was a 31ft and way to butchered.
