replacing rotted walls and roof

Post  TCJester on Sat Oct 31, 2009 11:26 am

hi Everyone..
i again have another question regarding replacement of water damaged walls and panels.
1) is it easier to access from the inside or outside??
2) is marine plywood beneficial to use or pressure treated or is there other recommendations.

i know i have a huge restoration ahead of me but i look at as rebuilding a muscle car or 1940-50's vehicle..i have time on my side... i was trying to determine which way is better seeing winter is coming so i could either work on it inside the unit or wait for spring and good weather..

suggestions and do not be afraid to say junk it...i figure anything is worth rebuilding...if not..i could always part out a lot of the items and sell them... ie... new tires, rotors generator, refrig, stove, roof top a/c units etc... and get my investment money back..

thanks again for any replies

Here's a great step by step of what could be a worse case scenario.

http://www.rvforsaleguide.com/trailer-repair/rv-trailer-repair.htm

Be sure to go thru all the links, there's a lot of good info there.

Very inspiring also!

HTH!

Post some pics of your rig so we might see what you're up to.

big job ??

Post  TCJester on Tue Nov 03, 2009 11:15 am

after looking at the website i was sent..i guess everything is worth fixing...just need time, patience and be handy ..i have two of the three...i will post pictures if i can figure out how..but my initial inspection showed no sagging ceilings but rotted wood just behind driver's side door and big window and passenger mirror is falling off because of rotted wood..i did notice some seepage on overhead above driver seating area... but the rest of the interior looked dry..i took a flashlight and looked all around vents and windows for interior water stains but i didn't see anything outstanding...but only time will tell..the shop that did some mechanical work was up on the roof and said there was several soft spots...but seeing i have only invested 1700 for unit and another 1000 < mostly labor> for repairs .. is street legal and inspected ...i still think it is worth the restoration...especially after viewing the trailer restoration project...i will keep you posted.. again thanks for the help...
